In August 2017, BBC Two aired a two-part series looking at the role of gender equality in Primary education, with much of the action taking place at Lanesend Primary School on the Isle of Wight. Here, IMS editor James Cain and programme star (and Lanesend leader of learning for Years 3 and 4) Graham Andre discuss how attitudes towards gender have changed at the school.

Back in September, we announced the launch of LitFilmFest 2018 – a completely free KS2 literacy & filmmaking festival developed by the team at A Tale Unfolds, and supported by YouTube Kids, in order to boost writing attainment in Primary schools. There is currently a wealth of providers in education offering great assessment content to Primary schools, all of which use a different style and approach. As a result, it can often be extremely difficult for Primary school leaders to determine which content provider fits best with their school’s assessment needs.

After years of being frustrated that CPD events for schools very rarely featured how to use technology within the subject area covered, teacher Maggie Morrissey set up Technology To Teach. She and her colleague Wendy Gregory focus bringing primarily on delivering first-rate CPD on certain areas of the curriculum such as Maths and Science, but with a strong element of ICT incorporated throughout.

Boots Soltan Sun Ready has launched the brand new Soltan Sun Ready Challenge app, a fun and interactive way to learn about sun safety. With summer fast approaching, Boots Soltan Sun Ready has developed the Soltan Sun Ready Challenge app to support teachers and parents when encouraging Primary school pupils to protect their skin and stay safe in the summer sun.

Motivated by the writing and filmmaking efforts of classrooms across the country, this summer we’re hosting the very first LitFilmFest. This one-day event, taking place on Monday 19th June, will champion KS2 pupils’ writing and cinematic efforts, with winning classes shooting their films professionally before watching them on the biggest screen in Britain - the BFI London IMAX.
