Cheltenham College had been using Oliver for 5 years and had seen a big improvement in the functionality of the OPAC from their previous system. Their next big step was to improve engagement with students. In the summer of 2011, this goal was achieved and the library was refurbished bringing it into the ‘modern world’.
Ginette, Librarian at Cheltenham College, explains, “The main challenge was that the historical use of the library as a 6th form study room was extremely entrenched within college life. We had to raise the use of the library for all years as an area for leisure reading and study”.
Premier Interlink (Waco UK) awarded school building contract for Leeds City Council

The off-site manufacturing specialist, Premier Interlink (Waco UK Ltd), has been awarded a contract worth around £8m by Leeds City Council as part of a four year 'Basic Needs Framework' agreement.
Three modular buildings will be built to provide a total of 3380m2 of accommodation to the Roundhay, Bracken Edge and Wykebeck area and will comprise of a total of 106 steel-framed modules, which will be manufactured off site in a controlled factory environment at Premier Interlinks modern facilities in East Yorkshire. These will be delivered by road and craned into position ready for the final stages of fitting-out on site.

Accessibility on the move comes one step closer with MyDocStore

Internationally renowned assistive technology company, iansyst, was a winner in Plain Sailing, a Small Businesses Research Initiative (SBRI) launched by JISC TechDis, the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS). The competition has allowed iansyst to develop new technology solutions which will help people, particularly those with a disability, in education, at work and at home.
iansyst's proof of concept, MyDocStore, demonstrated how users can use mobile and cloud based technology to access documents anywhere using cloud-based assistive technologies. The MyDocStore service improved access to information and learning materials for those with reading disabilities such as dyslexia or a visual impairment, but also helped those who wanted to read documents and content when on the move. iansyst and its project partners have now been awarded funding to develop a prototype of the MyDocStore Service further enabling the service to be rolled out to learners and potential users.
Langeroo numbers topic updated for cross-curriculum teaching

The Langeroo Numbers Topic has been updated and improved. Langeroo have added a zero and the mathematical signs for add, subtract, multiply, divide and equals to the Scene Maker Tool. These new features will enable teachers to present a variety of mathematical concepts in a fun, easy to use way.
Discussing and talking about mathematics and mathematical concepts is a key and vital part of children’s learning and understanding of maths. It is also important that teachers use a variety of media to represent different mathematical information, and for children to have opportunities to talk about and discuss maths.

Primary school students make video about programming with robots

Aged between 9 and 10, the students have been learning robotics and programming with the robot for some time now. Their teacher says that they have dedicated a lot of time and effort in preparing this tutorial but have been very enthusiastic about their work.
Mobile ICT stolen from almost half of education establishments

Almost half of education establishments have been victims of mobile ICT theft during the last three years, research from LapSafe® Products reveals.
New data from the education sector’s expert in managing mobile computing shows that 45 per cent of education establishments had mobile devices, such as laptops, netbooks, MP3 players, tablets and gaming devices, stolen between 2009 and 2011. More than a quarter of institutions (27 per cent) had mobile ICT equipment stolen in 2011.
