Parental engagement in careers exploration

In the latest of a series of short films that look at the many ways in which U-Explore can be used to support both staff and students in establishments around the country, we vis- ited a pro-active academy in the North East of England to investigate how parents are be- ing involved in their child's careers exploration.
Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy in Gateshead is passionate about involving parents in their child's careers exploration and in addition to using U-Explore in lesson time, students are being encouraged to log on to the interactive platform at home with their parents to explore their future options further.

Recognising the importance of children's character development, the tight financial constraints schools are under and the ever increasing demands on teachers' time, in March The Shanly Foundation offered to pay for 10 copies of the Human Values Foundation's ready-to-teach EDUCATION in HUMAN VALUES programme suitable for children aged from 4 to 12 years.
Schools local to The Shanly Foundation were advised about this generous offer of practical assistance and within a fortnight, just before the end of the Spring term, 10 schools had contacted The Human Values Foundation to claim a free copy of the resource.
Primary school students make video about programming with robots

Aged between 9 and 10, the students have been learning robotics and programming with the robot for some time now. Their teacher says that they have dedicated a lot of time and effort in preparing this tutorial but have been very enthusiastic about their work.

MP and Shadow Treasury Minister visit U-Explore as youth unemployment figures hit record high

A local MP and Shadow Treasury Minister have visited U-Explore to learn more about the company's work in the careers guidance space following news that youth unemployment figures have hit a record high.
Wentworth and Dearne MP John Healey and Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury Rachel Reeves MP received a first-hand look at how U-Explore is working to ensure that all young people are able to progress into suitable employment and training, regardless of their circumstance, and make informed, educated decisions about their futures.
The visit came after recent figures published showed that over a million young people were out of work in the three months to November. The number of 18 to 24-year-olds in Yorkshire claiming job seekers allowance more than doubled between January and December last year.

Coinciding with the House of Lords' report on HIV and AIDS, which calls for a new awareness campaign to help stop the spread of the virus in the UK, online learning community Rafi.ki, has launched HIV360º, an exciting and interactive youth education project.
