Rachel Johnson is celebrating after being announced as one of the UK’s most exciting young entrepreneurs of the year. The 27 year old from Wilmslow beat off stiff competition from around the UK to win a monthly heat of the world-renowned Shell LiveWIRE competition and £1,000 funding earlier this year. Since then, judges have sat down to reveal the 40 best talents in the UK and Rachel’s company Industry Insiders has just been awarded one of the highly contested titles.

Industry Insiders was set up to deliver inspirational talks and workshops in schools and colleges to boost confidence, raise aspirations and self-esteem. They educate young people on a flavour of what it’s like in the world of work. The company bridge the gap between education and work and the ethos is to inspire, motivate and encourage, helping people to achieve more and live their dreams. Rachel works with eight inspirational experts to deliver the sessions and include a former Commissioning Editor of BBC Radio 1, a Sales and Marketing Specialist and a TV and Sports Commentator.

Inspiring young people is not a new concept, but in a world of recession, job cuts and fewer opportunities in work, motivating pupils and getting them to be excited about their prospects after school is more important than ever.

According to the latest news, unemployment is at a 17 year high and figures just released show the jobless rate of 16-24 year olds is a massive 21.3%. Nearly a million young people can’t find a job and so getting them to work hard and achieve in order to live their dreams is a must in the classroom.

Every school in Cheshire is being given free access to thousands of pounds worth of innovative creative writing resources for Key Stages 1-4 to get young people more involved in writing. The documents, which include detailed lesson plans and innovative resources for teachers and pupils, have been compiled by Brit Writers, the largest creative writing project in the UK supported by David Cameron and Nick Clegg.

The materials have been made available thanks to the financial support from Wilmslow-based Company Industry Insiders, who work with schools and colleges to deliver inspirational talks to boost aspirations and confidence in young people. They teamed up with the National Brit Writers Awards in a bid to inspire and motivate more youngsters to become involved in writing and to realise the importance that this has on everything they do as they grow up. In an age of mobile phones, blogging and social networking sites, many young people are growing up without the essential writing skills needed to find and excel in job roles and many teachers are struggling to find new and exciting ways to engage young people and make writing fun.
