What is it?
This innovative resource by Bob Drew, previous head of geography, explains how teachers and pupils can benefit from well-chosen forms of prescribed assessment. Success here requires us to acknowledge that teachers and pupils are evaluating informally and unwittingly all the time; sound practice includes spotting these situations and substituting well-founded assessments for the hunches that could otherwise be the sole basis for our judgements.
What does it contain?
The resource provides practical advice and guidance on making best use of assessment, notably including the following areas:
- Why assessment is good for you
- Using levels and grades with confidence
- Planning progression into schemes of work
- Self-evaluation of your department
- Assessing teaching and learning quality.
The file also contains a sample departmental SEF and a report on assessment practice, conclusions and recommendations.
