Attendance
Headteachers involved with the two year pilot programme found that positive attendance patterns directly correlated with the days when Health Mentors were present in their schools. Punctuality also improved due to the Health Mentors' involvement with breakfast clubs.

Community Cohesion
An important feature of Project HE:RO is to engage parents in their children's learning by organising parental inclusion activities and delivering accredited courses for parents to attend whilst their children are taking part in their own activities.

Curriculum
Health Mentors can raise standards in PE and PSHE lessons due to their training, experience and expertise. Also, individual and small group mentoring sessions have a positive impact on the overall engagement of pupils within all subject areas.

Enrichment
Versatile Health Mentors bring a wide range of skills into the school environment and provide much needed expertise in "fringe" areas that allow core staff to focus on teaching and learning.

Exam Results
Evidence from headteachers involved with Project HE:RO suggests that attainment has improved as a result of the holistic intervention, especially with hard to reach and disengaged pupils who were not responding adequately to mainstream provision.

Financial
Health Mentors are employed by Evolve: A Social Impact Company so payroll costs are reduced and financial flexibility is retained due to the short one month termination period that is required. Furthermore, the appointment of one Health Mentor can fulfill a number of separate roles within a school that would normally require various part time staffing solutions such as teaching assistants, learning mentors, lunchtime supervisors, PPA providers and after school play workers.

Safeguarding
All Project HE:RO staff hold enhanced CRB disclosures and attend regular safeguarding training. The very nature of relationships developed between pupils and Health Mentors contributes to children's safety and enjoyment, a view echoed by OFSTED in a recent inspection report: “...The Health Mentors are a key element in the school's provision, not only in providing a high quality of basic care for pupils whose circumstances make them vulnerable, but also in promoting basic literacy and numeracy skills through individual support and providing positive role models in promoting a healthy lifestyle.
As a result, the pupils feel safe and know that there is always someone who will listen...”

We have been working with Evolve Sports for a number of years. Initially they provided a member of staff do complete some playground animation/ play leader work during the lunchtime break. This worked well and the children learnt to play new games and co-operate together. there was a definite improvement in lunchtime behaviour, especially amongst a small core of problematic boys.
Due to the success of this first initiative we decided to use Evolve Sports to provide part of our PPA cover. A Sports Mentor, supported by one of our HLTAs, now teaches all our games lessons. The children love it! The levels of fitness have improved and the mentor acts as a great role model. We have combined lesson plans provided by Evolve with our own games planning and this has worked well. Flexibility and meeting the needs of the school are a clear priority for Evolve and this has worked for us. Highly recommended.

Project HE:RO has made a significant contribution to the children's wellbeing and perhaps more importantly their attainment here at Chad Vale Primary. The fun and exciting PE curriculum called APS - Active Learning, Physical Engagement and Social Development has ensured that the standards of PE in school have risen from satisfactory to outstanding this is further enhanced by the delivery of after school clubs.
The social aspect of the programme has seen the increased development of essential personal skills such as teamwork, confidence, communication, leadership and resilience.
Parents are encouraged to engage with their children's learning through planned activities such as ABC challenge and dance. we have employed health mentors as full time Teaching Assistants/Curriculum.
Health Mentors thus raising standards in PE and PSHE lessons due to their training, experience and expertise. Together with individual and small group mentoring and assessment sessions they have made a positive impact on the overall engagement of pupils within all subject areas.
As the Health Mentors bring with them a a wide range of skills into the school environment they provide expertise to support further the school's focus on teaching and learning.
Initially all our Health Mentors were employed by Evolve: A Social Impact Company so payroll costs were reduced and financial flexibility was retained due to the short one month termination period that was required. It has also proved to be an excellent recruitment company as we have given permanant positions to two health mentors. We continue to employ one health mentor through Evolve because of the flexibility it provides within the current economic climate. The appointment of Health Mentors fulfills a number of separate roles within our school that would normally require various part time staffing solutions such as teaching assistants, learning mentors, lunchtime supervisors, PPA providers and after school play workers. This has been of enormous benefit to the school and was a factor in our recent Outstanding Ofsted.
It is reassuring to know that all the Project HE:RO staff held enhanced CRB disclosures and attended regular safeguarding training.
