Mondokiddo.com is the first cultural/social networking site, that has a vision to help children around the world connect in a safe, advertising free, online environment. The three main objectives of the site are:
- To create a desire in 8-11 year olds to learn a living modern foreign language, whilst using the games and social media environment that they now take for granted
- To give children a tool with which they can discover different world cultures, whilst having fun
- To help engender the notion of tolerance of other cultures within our children.
The site works on a subscription basis and teachers or individual parents can opt for a limited free service or a more comprehensive paid for service.
Parents/teachers have total control over who children can make friends with (by defining permission parameters for each child relating to the age, sex or interests of the children that they would like their own children to have access to), and they are able to monitor conversations between children to ensure that they are comfortable with the online relationships that their children are forming.
The site is completely secure and can only be accessed by other mondokiddo subscribers. Within mondokiddo, there are no links to external Internet pages and therefore, your child or pupils can play, leaving you safe in the knowledge that they are within a safe community of users.
The site features an internal email system (children can only email other users of the site - from all over the world); a spell checker and translation tool; new games and content added every week. Children can learn about the recipes, monuments, sports and songs of other cultures (in fact, "The Golden Mic" is a karaoke game where children can learn, sing, record and share their recordings with other mondokiddos!).
We have many French schools on board and we are now looking for those enlightened British schools who understand what great paedagogical advantages children can achieve by being exposed to different cultures at an early age.
The site is currently available in French and English and new languages are set to be added next year.
Initial trails have indicated that there is also a wider application to the site - children are able to hone their IT skills and build their Internet savvy without being exposed to sinister marketing activities.

Children will be more engaged to learn as they will be using a site that reflects some of the games that they play at home. Engaged children means better attendance at school. In the event that a child cannot be at school, they are still able to maintain links with their classmates who are also mondokiddos, and thus feel included.
The whole raison d'etre for this site is to help our children to be more aware and tolerant of cultural differences.

The site, does not claim to be a site that will teach your child/pupils to be fluent in a certain language - however, it most certainly will support a child with the use of the language and the wider understanding of languages and cultures from around the world.
The whole raison d'etre for this site is to help our children to be more aware and tolerant of cultural differences. Children with cultural awareness are more open to experiencing and learning about the world, which, in turn means an enrichment of their lives.
The site, does not claim to be a site that will teach your child/pupils to be fluent in a certain language - however, it most certainly will support a child with the use of the language and the wider understanding of languages and cultures from around the world. This understanding, we believe will give MFL a context and therefore make them more relevant, helping pupils to retain information that may otherwise seem meaningless.
Access to mondokiddo.com starts on a free basis. Subscription to the whole package is very inexpensive compared to the purchase of textbooks and videos.
Mondokiddo's vision is to link young children around the world. Linkages can be made on an individual basis or on a classroom to classroom basis, thus supporting any international twinning programmes that you may already be involved with.
The system makes very little demand on your IT network as it is totally web based and therefore requires no complicated system configurations.
The site is a secure, closed network. That means that your children/pupils can only contact other children who are subscribed to use the site. There are no external links or advertisers on the site which means that when your child is in the site, they cannot accidentally click on something that will take them off to another site on the Internet. Parents/Teachers are able to view conversations between children; set criteria and parameters for the age of the children that they would like their own children to have access to; immediately report any inappropriate conversations that they see their children subjected to, via a "report abuse button"; and, ultimately, remove any friendships/conversations that they do not wish their children to have.
THe site is simple, bright and colourful. The site features a voice recording function so that children can record short messages and send them to one another.
Mondokiddo.com is a vibrant world of innovative and creative characters who guide your children through the world in a fun and thought provoking way. Whilst it is not a substitute for a real teacher, the games and exercises can be played with minimal teacher supervision and the teacher can rest assured that the children are in a safe and secure environment.
