Listening Books provides a high-quality, affordable online and postal audiobook library service for children and young people who struggle to read in the usual way due to an illness, disability or special educational need such as dyslexia.
By joining Listening Books your school will have access to 1000s of fantastic audiobooks across a choice of 3 easily accessible formats (MP3 CDs, downloads and internet streaming). Our library supports the National Curriculum from Key Stage 2 to A-Level and covers subjects including geography, science, maths and history as well as offering set texts and study guides on audio. Listening Books supports the National Curriculum and records a number of educational titles in its inhouse studios which you will not find elsewhere. Membership fees to the library begin at just £20.00 per year. Both schools and individuals can sign up for the service and pupils can access content in the classroom or at home.

INTERNET STREAMING SERVICE (FROM £20 PER YEAR)
All you need is internet access and a PC or laptop to listen to audiobooks straight from a computer at any time of the day or night. From just £20 per year. we'll issue you with an unique username and password to license 10 different computers within your school or in the homes of your pupils. Prices increase at £20 per 10 licences.
MP3 CD SERVICE (FROM £35 PER YEAR)
MP3 CDs look just like standard CDs and can play on modern CD players, computers and DVD players. From just £75 per year your school will have access to our full library of MP3 CDs delivered straight to your door. We're constantly adding new titles to our library and your school can borrow as many audiobooks as it likes throughout its member ship. All postage and packaging is included in the cost and there are no late fees!
MP3 CD AND INTERNET STREAMING SERVICE COMBINED (FROM JUST £90.00 PER YEAR)
Not only will your pupils be able to listen to audiobooks online, they'll also be able to receive them through the post. This option is available from just £90.00 per year.

All of these options include FREE access to our download able titles. Your pupils can choose from hundreds of popular audiobooks and download them to a portable device such as an iPod or mp3 player, giving them the convenience to listen anywhere they go!

How audiobooks can be used to help pupils with SEN in your school
Make texts accessible
Audiobooks remove the barriers of ‘reading’ a text for children and young people who struggle to read by replacing the written word with a spoken voice. This a great way of enabling pupils with SEN to understand a story and to glean meaning from the words. It allows them the same access to books for school as their peers meaning that they are less likely to fall behind or feel dejected. Longer set texts and Shakespeare plays which are studied at secondary level can appear particularly daunting for a child with SEN. We support the National Curriculum and you will find many set texts and study guides in our library to help support pupils in this situation.
Set up a listening post
Simply choose a computer in your school library on which to license our streaming service, then hand out the username and password to pupils. They can then log onto our website at their leisure to listen direct to over 1000 fantastic audiobooks. If they have their iPod or MP3 player handy, they can download certain audiobooks from our website onto their portable device, allowing them to take the book away with them.
Play a book in class
Liven up literacy hour by playing an audiobook to your pupils with SEN while they read along with a copy of their text. All of the audiobooks in our library are read by professional actors and many of our members find it beneficial to hear the words they are reading as it helps with pronunciation. It can also help with vocabulary, word recognition and comprehension and many children are encouraged to read independently with their new-found confidence.
Help with topic work
Whether studying the Romans, volcanoes or world religions, you can bring a topic to life for your pupils by choosing an audiobook from our vast range of non-fiction titles for streaming to play over your interactive whiteboard.
Listen at home
You can hand your username and password out to students of your choice to allow them to access the streaming service from home. This is perfect for homework or revision as pupils can listen direct to set texts, study guides and subject specific titles night or day from the comfort of their own home. It’s especially useful for pupils with physical impairments who find it difficult to hold a book as it means they don’t have to trawl through lots of different resource books; it’s all there in front of them at a click of a button!

Simply give out your username and password for our website and they will be able to download audiobooks from their home computer to a portable device like an iPod or MP3 player.
