Perfecting your school’s creative learning space

Ben Lord

Ben Lord is founder and director of Pod Space Ltd. Ben was born in West Yorkshire and here he developed a strong interest in sustainable architecture. He spent his early career working in practices around Leeds on commercial and residential projects. During this time he developed his keen eye for detail and quality.

In 2006, Ben founded Pod Space to fulfil the gap in the market for high quality contemporary timber eco buildings. Naturally he drew his inspiration from the contemporary architecture he admired as well as incorporating the eco features and benefits which complement the environment.

For many kids, getting home after school is the most exciting time of the day. Bored of reading, listening to teachers and facing forward, their minds almost immediately turn to playing with their friends, toys or consoles.

Part of that could be that their learning environment at work is sterile, clinical and not in the least bit stimulating. However, a growing number of schools, colleges and even universities are changing this. Creative learning spaces are seen as the way forward in education, especially where revision for exams is concerned.

These spaces are unlike your typical classrooms or on-site libraries. They use the latest technology, brightly-coloured furniture and flexible floor plans to create an immersive environment for students to study in peace or with their friends.

As demonstrated in the following infographic, there is ample reason to recommend creative learning spaces. They’re colourful, welcoming and offer a great change of pace from the traditional classroom. They can be set up at school or at home, while they’re equally useful for primary school classes and post-graduate studies.

Do you use any of these methods in your school? Let us know in the comments.
