“Kids gain so much from learning outside the classroom but the paperwork involved is very tiresome, both for the school and parents,” said Mr Davis. “With eeZeeTrip we can quickly inform parents of the upcoming trips and get their consent at a click of a button. Pupils from Year 5 came up with the name and logo, which Semantise have incorporated into the app.
“As well as being very easy for parents to get information about events, the school is saving money on sending all those letters home. We've saved nearly 4000 pieces of paper and printing in just two months. That really adds up over the year, and we can use the money saved to better support pupils' learning - as well as helping the environment, of course!”
Mrs Jeannie Bishop, a parent of a Cae Top pupil, says “I love eeZeeTrip - it's so much more convenient than all the paper letters we used to get. Plus, I can pay for things direct from my phone and don't have to worry about sending cash to school."
Brynrefail-based Semantise Ltd were approached to turn the school's idea into a real product. Dr Oggy East, director of Semantise, said: “We've been developing innovative software for schools since 2000, and jumped at the opportunity to work with Ysgol Cae Top. This project is really exciting, and we're looking to sell eeZeeTrip to schools across the UK – and beyond!”
eeZeeTrip also allows online payments for all sorts of school events – trips, after-school clubs, dinner money etc and helps schools engage parents in their children's education.
Mr Davis concluded: “A lot of research has shown that the more parents are involved in what their kids are doing at school the better the children perform. eeZeeTrip is not only saving the school time and money, the quick and easy connection with parents will hopefully improve educational outcomes for our pupils.”
