The SMART Squad programme is a series of free, dedicated teaching resources available through the Smart Energy GB website, designed to help engage Primary school pupils across Great Britain with energy-efficient behaviour.
The curriculum-linked resources include a lesson presentation and activity sheets, designed to help encourage energy-saving behaviour both in school and at home.
The resources complement the curriculum and can be used across Science, Geography, PSHE and Global Citizenship lessons. They also help to develop numeracy and literacy skills, as well as encouraging group work and class discussion.
“I would highly recommend the resources to any teacher who wants to teach their class about energy saving and energy efficient behaviour,” enthused Lowri Evans, a teacher at Ysgol Bro Hyddgen in Machynlleth, Powys. “The resources are easy to access, informative and digestible.”
The SMART Squad resources aim to help pupils learn about the importance of energy efficiency and how to be energy SMART:
Save: Don’t waste energy.
Monitor: Keep an eye on how much you’re using.
Advise: Help your family, friends, school and community to save energy.
Record: Record what you see.
Turn it off: Turn things off that you’re not using.
The resources provide an innovative way for teachers and pupils to refresh their knowledge and develop their education about how to be energy efficient, in school and in the home.
