The Manchester-based School Spider now provide websites, tools and apps for over 280 schools in the UK. Originally set up as a website and Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) provider, during the last year they have assigned their team of coders to focus on creating tools to assist parents.
"A lot of the feedback we hear from schools is around how they can communicate with the parents in a simpler way without breaking the budget,” says director Alex Ellis. “School Spider have taken that message on board and created a suite of products for the parents section of our website, which are accessible through the website at no extra cost."
As well as offering a simple-to-update professional and bespoke website, School Spider allows schools to send virtual permission slips and questionnaires home to parents via the school website. This is proving popular with schools, as is the online parents’ evening slot booker.
Carl Jones, PE and school sport coordinator at Cherry Grove Primary in Cheshire, said: "We have just used the parents’ evening function for the first time. We’ve had two parents’ evenings this week, and both have been 100% easier to organise for the staff than before we started using School Spider".
The popularity of the Parents' area mirrors the success of the School Spider student VLE, which provides pupils with a range of functions, including blogging with other schools and picking up their homework online.
