SMART Technologies, innovator and leading global provider of collaboration solutions, is introducing a unique and ground-breaking approach to technology in schools. Classroom As a Service, or SMART ClaaS, will aid UK schools in obtaining their needed edtech, including interactive displays, collaborative learning software, professional development and support from SMART and other best-in-class vendors. ClaaS will even buy a school’s existing IT assets to help finance their new subscription.

This easy-to-manage service agreement can be tailored to meet budgetary requirements. Instead of having to spend large amounts to buy and own education technology, ClaaS will allow schools to benefit from the latest hardware, related software and training by making affordable monthly or quarterly payments over the length of a defined subscription term.

Nearly 70 million teachers and students around the world use SMART solutions for education to make learning more interactive, engaging, effective and fun. Abbots Bromley International School in Staffordshire is one of the first to trial the ClaaS offering through SMART’s UK managed service partners.

“We knew it was critical for our school to offer a comprehensive technology experience in order to attract international students,” says Victoria Musgrave, executive head of Abbots Bromley. “With SMART’s technology supported by ClaaS, we can showcase these facilities and engage with prospective students and their parents virtually. Without ClaaS, there would be no possibility for us to raise the funds or invest in the state-of-the-art solution we have in place today.”

ClaaS is specifically designed to help maximise their budgets with savings, as well as adding more equipment and services when required. Ongoing servicing, training and maintenance is covered by the agreement, ensuring schools and teachers get the most from technology, and schools will enjoy a regular refresh to ensure they always have the latest learning technology.

Neil Gaydon, CEO of SMART Technologies, said: “Schools face a very difficult time trying to keep up with the relentless pace of technology advancement, coupled with the necessary training due to limited budgets and parents demanding the right tools for their children. SMART ClaaS is a breakthrough service, ensuring schools, teachers and students benefit from great education technology on a sustainable basis. When the right education technology and training is in place it drives better learning outcomes, as well as preparing our children for a workplace that demands technology proficiency.”

SMART ClaaS’ flexibility allows schools to choose a convenient term length (such as three, four or five years) with the ability to renew the contract, negotiate a new contract or end the contract at the end of the original term.
