The McDonald’s Education website provides a complete set of downloadable and interactive teaching tools to help simulate a real-life workplace setting, including videos, case studies, a student activity pack, teacher notes and vox pop interviews. The challenges have been developed and reviewed by teachers to provide a variety of experiential learning opportunities, ranging from research to teamwork, decision-making and problem-solving.
“I really like the different learning opportunities for students,” said Julie Delahaye, assistant principal and Business Studies teacher at Cockshut Hill Technology College, Birmingham. “[It helps with] creating case studies, answering questions, presentations, decision making, group or independent work and opportunities for research.”
A survey conducted by EdComs Research showed that 68% of secondary school teachers are keen to engage with McDonald’s. Teachers felt that one the world’s most recognisable brands could provide a real-world context to their teaching, helping students to better relate to what they are learning. Moreover, 70% of teachers said they value the enriched learning experiences that educational programmes from businesses give to their classroom practice.
The McDonald’s Education website has therefore been created to provide real-life work examples, giving students valuable insight into the world of business, food technology and careers. The resources offered in this pack link directly to key curriculum topics across Business Studies, Food Technology and Careers and Employability.
Rebecca Dickson of Langley Secondary School, Solihull said: “It really helps to be able to teach in a context that the children are familiar with – it gives them a practical way to learn the theory that they have to take on.”
