Teachers using ‘4Ps’ to engage, inspire and motivate pupils

SucceedIn

Succeedin provide a Toolset of teaching resources that will firstly enable Primary Schools to build and sustain a PE Legacy. They have developed an innovative exciting using modern technology as a blueprint and allowing teachers to facilitate lessons even if they lack the knowledge of the subject. This has been developed for IPad, interactive boards, iPhone and laptops. Just some of the ways schools are moving forward in the way they deliver to children, supporting their different learning styles from, visual, auditory and kinaesthetic.

Educational company Succeedin have begun running introductory workshop which allow teachers, both new and experienced, to get the most out of their interactions with young people. These workshops are delivered over four hours, priced from £675 + VAT (subject to location).

These sessions are based around the ‘4Ps’ approach to support each type of learner:

  • Politician: Learners who are confident in their own abilities and like to lead the group at every given opportunity.

  • Passenger: Pupils who follow and support their peers until they feel threatened, or have an opinion that needs to be heard.

  • Protester: Those who want to lead but can’t always get my point across or be heard; when this happens, they protest.

  • Prisoner: These pupils value their friendships and social dynamic more than making the right decision. They don’t contribute because they don’t want to make a mistake in front of my peers.

This innovative way to analyse learner interactions is used and explained in a way which supports the teacher’s planning of the session and makes sure learning takes place rapidly.

Follow up sessions are then provided to build and consolidate the skills and techniques that are used, ensuring learning is continuous, effective and robust. This model has been extensively tested and reviewed for use in a variety of settings. The most recent has been with sport coaches who work in schools with young people but who do not have the benefit of any training in this area prior to starting. More experienced teachers and instructors will also benefit from the development of well-known and tested behaviour management techniques and associated team building activities.

“Since working with Succeedin, our teaching staff have reviewed the way we nurture our children,” said Hook-with-Warsash Primary School PE manager Tom Earles. “They have provided us with some real thought provoking material that we debate on a regular basis. Combining theory, practical and discussion-based tasks allowed us to share not only passed experiences but current issues we face on a day-to-day basis. The workshop really has motivated and engaged our workforce.”
