Telford school becomes edtech Innovation Hub

Fujitsu are working with schools as part of their Education Ambassador Programme that is aligned to the Education Technology Action Group (ETAG) and supported by secretary of state for education Nicky Morgan. This programme has been set up to enable and promote collaboration across all levels of education, and promote shared best practice vision for driving transformational change through technology.

Technology giant Fujitsu has launched its eighth Innovation Hub, with The Telford Park School becoming the latest member of the Fujitsu-Intel Ambassador Programme. The Stirchley-based school was selected due to its commitment to stand out as a new species of school, ultimately equipping their students with the right skills for what comes after education.

The initiative aims to enhance teaching and unleash students' potential by putting technology at the heart of education. It is aligned with the objectives of the Department for Education’s Education Technology Action Group (ETAG), whose mission is to promote the use of digital technology across schools, further education, higher education and Special Education Needs (SEN) sectors. Fujitsu and Intel have equipped the school with state-of-the-art technology, providing the Innovation Hub with a set of 12 devices comprising of STYLISTIC Tablet and LIFEBOOK Notebook ranges - all equipped with the latest Intel processor technology.

“For us, the Innovation Hub not only offers our students an incredible opportunity to prepare for a digital future, but it is also about spanning the curriculum divide that often exists between primary and secondary education,” said Lee Taylor, headteacher of The Telford Park School. “This is a significant step in supporting ours – and other – students all the way through education from years one to six, and giving them access to inspiring new technology, taking them beyond the traditional classroom.”

The Telford Park School is utilising the Innovation Hub not only for its own pupils, but also the wider community in the Telford and Wrekin area, in which there are 46 primary and 12 secondary schools – all of which will have access to the Hub and its technology. This development has seen the school also become an official partner of Tablet Academy, who will be supporting all of the Ambassador Centres by offering teacher training in the newly acquired technologies.

As the official Tablet Academy headquarters, the school will become a focal point for the delivery of exciting digital workshops and courses that make the most of the technology on offer as well as allowing people to develop their digital skills in line with the GoON UK campaign launched by Baroness Martha Lane-Fox.”

The hub will also be used for sessions with parents and students combined, in which the learners support the training sessions for teachers and other adults.
