Two years ago, Djanogly City Academy in Nottingham were faced with a challenge. They wanted to provide one-to-one support for their pupil premium students, but couldn’t find any local companies who supplied tuition at an affordable price with the scale and flexibility that they needed.

That’s when they got in touch with MyTutor, an online platform which matches school pupils with the very best tutors throughout the country. Students use MyTutor’s Online Lesson Space to receive live, one-to-one tuition in over 60 subjects, reinforcing classwork and improving confidence.

Since 2016, MyTutor has worked with Djanogly to provide tuition for over 200 of their pupils. The results have been outstanding: pupils who receive tuition make an average of 1.2 grades’ additional progress compared to those who don’t, and this year, Djanogly was the second-most improved school in the country.

“Students face a number of challenges in the school climate today,” said Tom Pearce, director of achievement at Djanogly. “Class sizes are noticeably very large, and students don’t get the same attention and support they might have done a few years ago.

“MyTutor allows students to get one-to-one support, and that can have a big impact. It’s been incredible to see the change in our students.”

The response from pupils was overwhelmingly positive:

“I find it easier to use the online space because it’s one-to-one and I can get a lot of help, which I wouldn’t get in a classroom of 30 kids,” said Jack Garner, a Year 11 student at Djanogly. “One-to-one tuition is better for me because the tutor can address my individual needs.”

“When I’m having tuition, I get to be alone in my own space without anyone interrupting me,” said Sharleen Arifaneti, who received Biology tuition in the lead up to her GCSEs.
