George Gilchrist

George Gilchrist recently retired as headteacher of two Primary schools in the Scottish Borders. He was a school leader for 18 years, and is a fellow of the Scottish College for Educational Leadership. He now writes and speaks about school leadership, and learning and teaching. His latest book, ‘Practitioner Enquiry: Professional development with impact for teachers, schools and systems’ will be published by Routledge in January 2018. He also is a regular blogger.

How to make this year work for YOU

Both as a teacher, and then as a school leader, at the beginning of each new year I used to identify what I would be trying to achieve over the course of the year to come. In both roles, my focus was always around how I would be working to improve my understanding and my practice so that I was better able to meet the holistic needs of all my learners.
