CHRISTMAS

Get Set to Eat Fresh are excited to announce the return of Kevin the Carrot, the star of Aldi’s Christmas advert for a fourth year running, with the new healthy eating resources titled ‘Kevin’s Christmas Journey’ and ‘A Christmas Campaign’.

Christmas is a great opportunity to take the time to be thankful for those who are part of our learning community, and to channel our festive spirit and cheer into contributing to a positive environment full of thought and goodwill. At our school, all of our members of staff (teaching and non-teaching) are invited to take part in our ‘Advent Angel’ initiative. After signing up, volunteers are secretly and randomly given the name of another member of staff who is also taking part. Our only caveat is that we aim to make sure that it is not someone with the same department or office, so colleagues across the school have the opportunity to learn something new about someone, which builds into our community ethos.

Christmas for our very special children has to be the most magical time that we can possibly make it. Some of our children are so poorly that they may not be able to celebrate when Christmas day finally dawns. In other families, parents and carers may be so tired from the constant regime of looking after their profoundly poorly children that they may not have enough energy left to celebrate at home. At Highfurlong we make it our mission to create a party atmosphere for all our children, and ensure that everyone has a taste of a perfect Christmas day.

The run-up to the Christmas holidays is always an exciting period: winding down school for the term and taking part in fun class activities is all part of the seasonal excitement. This time presents opportunities for all manner of activities, with crafting being a long-running favourite. Take this special time of year to explore a variety of crafting activities, and see how simply children can create lovely gifts, cards and decorations to be taken home and treasured for the holidays.

Close your eyes and picture this: endless blue skies, heat shimmering in waves off the ground, the sound of cockatoos screeching at each other from the nearby palm trees, and a pine tree covered in tinsel and Christmas decorations. Something of a contradiction to most, but the only kind of Christmas I knew for a quarter of a century. The Christmas you see in the movies, with the snowy cottages and open fires and everything happening in the dark still doesn’t seem real to me.

If your School PTA has not yet run an annual Christmas card printing project then you may be missing out on a fantastic fundraising opportunity.

School Christmas card projects allow children to design Christmas cards on pieces of paper and have these cards turned into professional quality pieces. The PTA then sells these packs of personalised Christmas cards to the students' parents. It’s a lovely way for children to see their artwork turned into real printed Christmas cards.

However, if you are responsible for running one of these projects as a PTA member then you will want to sell as many packs as possible to ensure your PTA maximises it’s fundraising opportunity.
