In celebration of Finland’s centenary year in 2017, the team behind Finnish edu-innovators HundrED are looking at the future of education worldwide. A global, non-profit project, HundrED is aiming to bring together a vision of education for the next 100 years, collecting 100 innovations from Finland and a further 100 from around the world, along with commentary from global thought leaders. The findings will be documented as a book, a documentary, a series of international seminars and a toolkit for teachers, all to be shared with the world for free.

All of Bright Tribe Academy Trust’s schools now have full access to Britannica Digital Learning’s online resources. Bright Tribe has been working closely with Britannica to ensure that all of their staff and students have access to Britannica School and Britannica ImageQuest as part of their learning initiative.

A Cardiff school has adopted beacon technology for use in its classrooms, and is the first to do so in Wales. Mary Immaculate High School in Wenvoe has been working with edtech company Aspire2Be for the past six months, enabling pupils to access learning resources and exercises related to their lessons mobile devices.

3D printers are one of the hottest new innovations in the manufacturing and design world, and this new tech is fast moving past its infancy. To many, it's a technology that seems futuristic for the time in which we live, never mind the classroom – but nevertheless is one that holds enormous potential not just in the STEM industries, but in schools as well.

With government funding and a wealth of shared knowledge, Eureka Online College are working with UK schools to offer teachers-in-training a wide variety of exceptional courses in shortage subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Maths and Physics. This brings much-needed help to future educators who would normally not be eligible to commence their teacher training due to small knowledge gaps. The organisation offers subject knowledge enhancement (SKE), the government initiative fully funded by the NCTL which aims to increase the pool of potential trainees in a selection of shortage subjects.

Explain Everything: Without a doubt my signature app, I have used Explain Everything in a number of ways. It is ideal for editing and improving pupils’ written work. By simply taking a photo of the child’s work, I record myself reading it out, using the cursor tool to encourage children to read along with me, and the pen and shape tool to annotate positive features of their work.

The C-Pen Exam Reader has been approved by The Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) for use in exams. With this development, students who have reading difficulties such as dyslexia or English as a second language (ESL) can independently take exams knowing that they can read and understand the questions. The Exam Reader is major technological breakthrough for anyone wanting assistance in reading exam questions. The pen is a totally portable, pocket-sized device that reads text out aloud with an English human-like digital voice, with headphones meaning that students can still sit their exams in the main exam hall.

SMART Technologies, innovator and leading global provider of collaboration solutions, is introducing a unique and ground-breaking approach to technology in schools. Classroom As a Service, or SMART ClaaS, will aid UK schools in obtaining their needed edtech, including interactive displays, collaborative learning software, professional development and support from SMART and other best-in-class vendors.
