Writing and filmmaking maestros A Tale Unfolds have announced the early release of Frightful Film Trailer, their brand-new, free resource made in collaboration with The Literacy Shed. This week-long literacy project encourages teachers to use film and filmmaking in the classroom as a purposeful way to engage children with writing. Using animations from The Literacy Shed as well as original videos starring The Write Brothers, teachers and pupils are guided step by step in creating their own trailer.

“Teachers need help to stop reinventing the wheel,” said company founder Dominic Traynor. “Our aim is to make it easy for teachers to focus on teaching by providing everything they need in one simple package.”

The project includes seven original stimulus and how to film videos along with daily whiteboard files, lesson plans and supporting resources.

Rob Smith of The Literacy Shed said: “Film allows all children to be involved in the creative process regardless of reading or writing ability. The combination of film and filmmaking is unique which make this such a fantastic resource.”

A Tale Unfolds has been working alongside teachers for the last three years to radically improve literacy teaching and learning. Catherine Miller of Carnagill Community Primary School said: “I can’t recommend A Tale Unfolds strongly enough! My class have made fabulous progress in writing and loved every minute.”
