I tweet and blog a lot about my network and how being an outward-facing leader who is connected to a wider educational community fuels me. It the last few years through Twitter, StaffRm, #WomenEd and now #BAMEed, through #TeachMeets, #leadmeets and #researched I have met a plethora of fantastic educational contacts who have inspired me, empowered me and connected me. Through these connections I have ended up meeting brilliant educators and collaborating on some fantastic projects. These collaborations have reignited my passion for my profession.

Teaching can take it out of you. It can drain your time and your energy, but a bit like going to the gym when you are knackered and you come out feeling good about yourself, going to a grassroots CPD event can top up your reserves to keep you going for the rest of the half-term. Go forth and find your tribe, create those collaborations with the outward-facing, like-minded people who you connect with.

So, what’s on the horizon for April?

This month is busy! There are so many opportunities to connect, reflect, discuss and network.

6th June: #WomenEd #LeadMeet in Birmingham

Kirsty Tonks, a headteacher designate of a digital school in Birmingham, has recently joined the regional leaders team for the West Midlands. She and her team are hosting a networking event to grow the local community. Lots of our new regional leaders will be sharing their leadership journeys. A #LeadMeet is a great way to come and connect, there will be lots of micro-presentations from local women leading in education.

7th June: #WomenEd #LeadMeet in Oxford

Kate Gater, a headteacher in Oxford, came to our Coventry event recently and is hosting a local opportunity for women in education to connect and share their stories. The lovely Dr Jill Berry will be joining us as a key note and we have a #HeForShe presentation from Matthew Watt, a local headteacher.

14th June: #TeachMeetHerts

Natalie Scott, TES Blogger of the Year, has curated a stellar line up for her summer #teachmeet. Who could resist a night with Amjad Ali, Vic Goddard, Action Jackson and Jaz Ampaw-Farr? Come and join us to connect, share and inspire before we break up for the summer.

17th June: #NorthernRocks

This is my first year in heading up to the event curated by Debra Kidd and Emma Hardy. Last year I was due to go, but it was the weekend before my headship interview so I had to pull out. A highlight in everyone’s calendar, I am looking forward to joining the tribe who are striving to ‘reclaim pedagogy’.

21st June: #TeachMeetReading

The lovely Anshi is one of the #BAMEed delegates on our DfE funded Diverse Leaders programme. Witnessing her journey this year has been testament to the power of a network, as she has grown through her interactivity on Twitter and Staffrm. She blew the audience away with her leadership narrative at the recent #WomenEd event in Southampton. She has asked her three coaches: Amjad, Jaz and I to keynote for her. She would love to see you there.

22nd June, Educational Festival

I am attending the Wellington festival for the 2nd year to present with my #WomenEd co-founders Keziah Featherstone and Jules Daulby in the morning. Then after lunch I am on a panel with Allana Gay and Amjad Ali to develop the dialogue around diversity in our profession. In between I will be checking out the fabulous line up of international educational speakers.

24th June: #WomenEd Leicester

Annemarie Williams, one of our EM regional leaders, is hosting us for our summer event. Her school is one of the most beautiful learning environments I have seen. With a culture of immersive learning, it is worth coming just to check out her dynamic and creative team’s interactive displays! There also inspiring and empowering key note speeches from Benny Bonsu and Harriet Minter.
