In order to spread innovation to even more schools than before, in the new year we’ll be running three major regional speed dating events. These will take place in London, Manchester and Birmingham in March, and will offer school leaders from local Primary and Secondary schools the chance to meet some of the latest and most up-and-coming edtech innovations.

The three regional events are free of charge and will be held in the same style as our popular speed dates that we run year-round, which traditionally cater to school clusters and alliances, such as Multi-Academy Trusts or TSAs. The regional events, meanwhile, will allow local schools, regardless of alliance, from around North East London, Manchester and Birmingham to meet a range of the best products that feature in Innovate My School's fast, fun and effective speed dating format.

The event will last a morning or afternoon, depending on whether you’re from a Primary or Secondary school. Breakfast, refreshments and lunch will be provided, with a free prize draw at the end. Further details are as follows:

  • London - Wednesday 1st March, Hackney Community College, N1 6HQ. This event is being run in collaboration with innovation hub Edspace.
  • Manchester - Tuesday 7th March, The Hive, 51 Lever Street, M1 1FN.
  • Birmingham - Wednesday 15th March, The Studio, 7 Cannon Street, B2 5EP.

We have pioneered speed dating across the UK education sector with over 131 events so far. The regional sessions offer a new opportunity for local schools to meet some of the best edtech resources on the market, to consider how they could add value to their school’s digital learning strategies, and to network with providers and peers from other local schools and alliances.

“The speed dating opened my eyes to the number of businesses and new, innovative packages that have been designed to assist in a wide range of teaching areas,” said Janet Walker, chair of Green Light Teaching School Alliance. “The session was an ideal way to find out what was new in the marketplace with a concise and informative pitch from the company representatives.”

The regional speed dating events come hot-on-the-heels of our first event held outside of the British Isles. On 24th November Dubai’s Kindergarten Starters School saw 15 leading and up-and-coming British innovators bring their edu-expertise to UAE schools. Phil Redhead, senior manager of Digital Strategy at GEMS Education, helped to facilitate the event:

“By exposing our educators to the best of British edtech solutions through this innovative format, we can further enhance the offering to GEMS students across our network of high-performing schools.”

With the regional speed dating sessions taking place in London, Manchester and Birmingham, we’re looking forward to match-making even more schools and suppliers.
