In an effort to celebrate what’s great about teaching, we’re teaming up with BESA to throw ‘Reasons To Be Cheerful About Education’, a panel and networking event to be held at Chester Racecourse on 9th February. The event will be free-of-charge for teachers to attend.

Taking place around 300 yards from the Innovate My School offices (we like to go local where possible…), Reasons To Be Cheerful About Education will run from 6:30pm - 8:15pm. You’ll be invited to enjoy a glass of wine, mix with your peers, and then engage with a panel of speakers to celebrate the positive aspects of the profession, and discuss what there is to look forward to in 2017.

“Despite the doom and gloom in the mainstream media, there is so much inspirational activity taking place in education at the moment,” said managing director Michael Forshaw.

“Online movements such as #teacher5aday supporting teacher wellbeing, TeachMeets and Pedagoo meetups sharing innovative practice in almost every city, and an explosion of exciting new products and startups bringing new ideas to the education marketplace on an, almost, daily basis. Let’s finish the year on a high and go into 2017 with a glass half full.”

Topics on the table include ‘what it is that makes teaching great?’, ‘what aspects of teaching never fail to put a smile on your face?’, ‘your most inspirational teachers’, ‘what innovations are taking place in the classroom that are transforming teaching?’ and, most importantly, ‘how can the status of teaching be raised to ensure that it, rightly, stands proudly alongside the other professions?

BESA director Patrick Hayes said: “There are so many reasons to be upbeat about education in the UK – the transformative impact teachers are having on the next generation in the classroom, the fact that the rest of the world looks to our education system as a beacon of excellence, and the fact that new innovations are helping to drive up standards, make lessons even more engaging and are saving teachers time.

“At a time of budget cuts and increased workload, there can often be a tendency to focus on the negatives, so we are delighted to be working with Innovate My School to celebrate the truly remarkable people who work in this profession, and the massive impact they make.”

Tickets are limited, so be sure to book as soon as possible. Visit www.besa.org.uk/events/panel-networking-event or contact [email protected] for more information!
