While creating their new range, Playforce designers took part in Maths lessons and observed both indoor and outdoor learning. These experiences gave the team some ideas on how teachers could bring Maths outcomes into practical applications outdoors, helping pupils to understand some of the concepts they learn in the classroom. After in-depth feedback from the Playforce partner schools, the designers refined the designs and the new range of equipment was launched.
“Maths is such a key skill for children to learn and understand at Primary School,” said Playforce product designer David Friend. “Everyone here at Playforce uses Maths somehow in their everyday lives, from measuring playgrounds, drawing plans and calculating prices to our teams managing their time effectively and planning for the future. This is one of the reasons we wanted to create a range of equipment that helps children to understand these important mathematical concepts and have lots of fun outdoors in the fresh air while doing it!”
The fun-loving organisation’s new structures include a Climbing Cube, a Climbing Cylinder, a Triple Tunnel and Slide, and a ‘Spin, Time, Score’ Play Panel. They support learning in Geometry, Ratios and Proportions, Shape (2D and 3D), Numbers and Place Value, Fractions, Multiplication and Division, Measurement, Statistics and Algebra.
