Upcoming TeachMeet events: April 2016

TeachMeet

TeachMeets are free events where educators gather to share tips, resources, stories and more. These gathering tend to include hot drinks and edibles, and all boast a friendly, collaborative, encouraging tone. Teachers are encouraged to get involved as presenters, so that they can share best practise with their eager peers.

TeachMeets are free-to-attend events and offer excellent CPD opportunities. Here are just a few such events being held in April 2016; all will likely still be accepting presentations, so be sure to get involved.

TMGAConf16 / #BeerMeet - 8th April, Manchester

A must for teachers for Geography, TMGAConf16 will “take place on the Friday Evening before the famous #BeerMeet”. The event is organised by leaders-in-their-field David Rogers and Jo Debens, the latter of whom will be presenting ‘I'm still a Geographer: influencing the whole school from a new SLT view’. Also included on the agenda are Catherine Owen (‘Connecting geography and literacy - from rapping to letter writing & more‘), Paul Berry (‘35 Years of Fieldwork’) and Richard Maurice (‘Bringing knowledge back; powerful knowledge in the Geography classroom’).

#TMPlymRevise - 13th April, Plymouth

Covering a variety of topics, this Tor Bridge High-hosted gathering’s main focus will be on effective revision, exam prep, interventions and ensuring both student and staff wellbeing in the coming exam season. Not only will each attendee be given a wellbeing goodie bag, but organisers Nina Elliott and Ruth Golding have secured great presentations from the likes of Crista Hazell, Sharon Davison, Rebecca Edwards, Paul McCormack and Joshua Clarke.

#WomenEd LeadMeet Bristol - 16th April

Focusing on leadership, this WomenEd event boasts a tremendous line-up thus far, including workshops from Hannah Wilson (‘Leading Change’), Keziah Featherstone (‘Your Covering Letter’), Mark Davies (‘Leadership After Headship’), Kate Fiddian (‘How to knock the socks off the interview panel’), Bukky Yusuf (‘Work life balance, Well being and Women Ed’) and Jules Daulby (the amazingly titled ‘How not to be a crap teacher and crap parent’).

ASE Science TeachMeet - 27th April, Loughborough

It wouldn’t be a month without a TeachMeet from the Association for Science Education. Being held at Loughborough High School, this packed event features awesome presentations such as:

  • Why you will never catch smallpox - a new cross curriculum resources’, by Tanya Dempster, ASE.
  • Learning from a Neuroscience Perspective’, by Taz Khan.
  • Playing Card Plenaries’, by Morag Herring.
  • ‘"Mission: Starlight" and other treasures of the RSC website’, by Heidi Dobbs.
