Home schooling may just be the right option for those who are looking out for better schooling strategies. Homeschooling is nothing but parent-directed education. It can take place in any part of your home, anytime. Many parents who have opted for this find numerous ways of homeschooling by taking their children to various locations for taking classes like the library, museums, field trips and any other place related to their curriculum. Many parents choose this type of schooling for various reasons like schooling environment, religious and moral implications and academics.

Reasons for homeschooling

According to a recent study, about 85% of the parents were really concerned about the public school environment. The worries were related to bullies, drugs, gangs etc. About 72% of them wanted to provide moral and religious education. And some 68% of them were not satisfied with the academic instruction offered in public schools. There are several other reasons too like wanting to get their children interested in other fields like movies, avoid the company of bad teachers, parents work schedule and avoid assignments related to porn or using the internet etc.

Advantages and disadvantages

Every new concept has its own advantages and disadvantages, so does homeschooling. This ‘new’ concept education is gaining popularity due to various reasons.

The most important of all is that it has a schedule that works. The best thing about this method is that you can create a schedule according to the convenience of your family and especially your child.

Unlike the school curriculum you are not stuck to a pre-set curriculum. You can learn a lot of cool things that interest you. Also, you can incorporate various elements of your choice.

The most important benefit is flexibility. The family can go on vacation whenever they choose. If the child is sick, he can take rest till he is completely fine. Similarly, all the assignments and projects can be done according to the convenience.

The biggest prize of homeschooling is that you can know your kids better. So you can assess your kids and take the necessary steps to develop their personality completely. The downsides should also be considered before choosing homeschooling.

Lack of time may make homeschooling a daunting procedure. You may not be able to find enough time to do all the research and preparation for preparing the curriculum and other things like organizing activities etc.

You need to shell out a lot of energy while homeschooling. Your personal space may take a backseat in such an environment. So ensure that you divide the time properly for school work and home.

According to various sources, number of children who are being educated from home is rising very fast. People believe that there are a lot of shared experiences between the children and the parents. This leads to better bonding and closeness. There is a need for curricula that contain fun and easy lessons. Otherwise, the elite private schools, their curricula and standards will triumph. Parents should provide the kids with high quality education material, environment and study habits. Along with these the children also learn morals, faith, behavior, ethics and many other things. Parents can actually control the children and what they learn. The future of homeschooling is based on several factors like improved self-learning; non-teacher based curricula, excellent academic standards and good study environment & disciplined habits. If these factors are prioritized, homeschooling has a lot of scope for improvements and can build the future generations appropriately.
