This month’s editorial theme, Accelerating Creativity, really resonates with me. As the headteacher of a start-up school that was designated as a STEM school, we have rebranded it as a STEAM school. The Aureus team are passionate about the Arts being at the heart of our school; we are committed to nurturing the hearts and the minds of our community.

We strive to be creative in a meaningful way. How can we do things better, differently, more efficiently to maximise our impact and sustain our wellbeing is a question we revisit often?

What opportunities for creative CPD are on the agenda for October?

10th October World Mental Health Day

Young Minds are raising awareness for WMHD by encouraging us all to say #helloyellow to bring some sunshine and a smile by wearing yellow for the day. We have asked our whole school community to participate.

10th October, The Art Room opening

We are really excited to be the new home for The Didcot Art Room, a national charity who provide art therapy intervention sessions for vulnerable learners. Their ethos supports and develops everything we strive for in our school.

11th October, International Day of the Girl

The #WomenEd community celebrate International Women’s Day each year, but for 2017 we are inspiring and empowering the next generation by celebrating #DayOfTheGirl. We have a stellar lineup of new and diverse voices, including a new regional partner in Feminism for Dads.

14th October, #WomenEd East Midlands

Dr Kay Fuller, one of our East Midlands #WomenEd regional leaders, is hosting us at Nottingham University. Some of the themes we will be exploring will include reflection, collaboration and leading change.

20th October, VBE Conference

We began our journey as a values-led school with a values-based education before we opened our doors. I recruited our team by aligning our vision and values. Sue Webb has guided us on our journey, and we are currently all reading Dr Neil Hawkes’ book From My Heart: Transforming Lives Through Values.

22nd October, #WomenEd UAE

I am off to Dubai for some sun at half-term, but Dr Carol Webb - a Twitter contact and #WomenEd advocate - has invited me to go and speak whilst I am there. I will be delivering a guest lecture discussing 'Education and values-led leadership' on Sunday 22nd October, for MA Education Leadership & Management students, and all who are interested are welcome to attend.
